Recent Update on Software Plugins for Fobos SDR
We’re excited to share more about two recent software plugins that enhance Fobos SDR by bringing native SDR++ support, making it the second fully integrated software option alongside uSDR. These plugins offer unique capabilities and expanded functionality, improving the SDR experience for Fobos SDR users.
Plugin Highlights:
Plugin 1 (by Alexander Rouma)
- Original Repository: GitHub – AlexandreRouma/SDRPlusPlus
Advantages:
- Enhanced HF input capabilities, allowing HF-band wave reception without bandwidth restrictions
- Eliminates spectrum mirroring on the HF band
- Supports bandwidth as low as 1.2 MHz through software downsampling
Limitations:
- High computational demand
- Lacks GPO control
- No device information display
Plugin 2 (by RigExpert’s team)
- Original Repository: GitHub – RigExpert/SDRPlusPlus
Advantages:
- Native streaming with no intermediate software processing, reducing computational load
- Supports GPO control
- Displays device information, including software, hardware, firmware, and API details
Limitations:
- HF direct sampling is available only up to a 50 MHz sample rate
- Mirrored spectrum on HF band
- Minimum RF sample rate is 8 MHz
Performance Note:
For optimal performance, particularly on the 50 MHz band, we recommend using a PC with an Intel Core i5 3.4 GHz or higher processor.
These plugins significantly expand Fobos SDR’s functionality and compatibility with SDR++. We’re eager to hear your feedback and learn how they work within your setup!
